Our Therapy Services

Assessment

Assessment

Assessment

Assessment is an essential part of the speech and language therapy process, it allows the Speech and Language Therapist to gather information about your child’s strengths and needs. We look at assessment using a dynamic approach: examining your child's current communication profile, as well as their learning potential.

Assessment may include:

  • Information Gathering - discussion with parents/ carers is the heart of the assessment process and allows us to examine your current concerns and your child's developmental history.
  • Observation during play - seeing your child engage in free play allows us to examine their functional communication skills in a naturalistic setting.
  • Formal/ informal assessment: we may need to carry out specific assessments to allow us to further assess your child's communication skills. Such assessment can provide us with information/ data  in order to further understand your child's speech, language and/ or communication difficulty.
  • Liaison with educational staff and/ or other professionals - We are firm believers in multi-disciplinary working and encourage liaison with other professionals involved in your child’s care, such as Teachers, GPs, Health Visitors and other Health Professionals.

All assessments include a written report detailing the findings and providing recommendations/ suggested strategies.

See below for further information on assessment options and pricing.

Therapy

Assessment

Assessment

Following assessment, the decision to carry out therapy will be discussed with your Speech and Language Therapist.

We provide a highly individualised therapy approach; working with your child's strengths and motivators in order to create change. All therapy goals are individualised and therapy tailored to your child's current needs. We believe that therapy should be both fun and highly engaging for your child. Play is an essential part of the therapy process and a highly powerful tool in communication development.

The duration and frequency of therapy will be tailored to your child's current profile and discussed in detail with your Speech and Language Therapist. This will be reviewed on a regular basis to ensure the most appropriate support is provided.

The Speech and Language Therapist will provide evidence based therapy, essential to further building on your child's communication development. We really value the importance of parents/ carers in the therapy process - we aim to empower parents/ carers by providing ongoing coaching and support, to allow them to further embed the therapy practice and recommendations into day to day family life.
